GSA has expanded the Cloud Special Item Number (SIN), 132-40, under IT Schedule 70 to include cloud-related IT Professional Services.
Previously, the Cloud SIN included Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS), Email as a Service (EaaS), and Platform as a Service (PaaS), but did not allow for IT Professional Services. Instead, a cloud contractor who wanted to offer related IT Professional Services would have needed to add the Professional Services SIN, 132-51, to their Schedule contract.
IT Professional services now covered by Cloud SIN 132-40 include those required to “Assess, Prepare, Refactor, Migrate, integrate, Develop new native cloud applications (DevOps), or Govern a cloud implementation,” according to GSA’s announcement.
The change represents another step in GSA’s ongoing effort to make the Schedules program easier and more efficient for contractors and customers alike. For instance, GSA recently announced that it would loosen the experience requirements for Professional Services Schedule (PSS) proposals, which will allow younger companies new access to that Schedule and the Federal opportunities that come with it.
GSA’s long-term goal is to combine all the Schedules into one overarching Schedule. The consolidation is a very large undertaking, however, and will take multiple years to complete. In the meantime, GSA continues to streamline and improve the separate Schedules individually.
